I've recorded a MIDI that is just shy of 3 minutes long; however, every time I try to direct-convert the file to WAV (as in, without playing the MIDI through speakers and recording via microphone), the resulting file mashes everything into about 8 seconds.

Apparently, the converters that I'm trying are simply reading the MIDI that fast, because even prior to the conversion they say that the loaded MIDI file is only 8 seconds long. However, in other players, such as Windows Media Player, the MIDI plays correctly.

How can I ensure that my MIDI is played back at the correct speed? I've checked things like Sample Rate, which some websites say might affect the speed, but I didn't get any change.

I just tried the MIDI to MP3 Converter on this site, and the resulting WAV file is exactly twice as fast as it needs to be. So, it's not nearly as fast as the other converters I've used, but it's still not at correct speed. Any suggestions? I'm confused as to why different converters are reading the MIDI at different speeds.

There should be a problem with the MIDI format. Have you tried to save the MIDI in different format (format 1 and format 0)? The program that you sequenced the MIDI may also be the source of the problem. Try to open your finished MIDI in another MIDI sequencing program and then re-save it (to "generalized" the MIDI into the standard format.)
