Never ever ever ever ever ever ever sing a song from the musical you are auditioning for, unless the casting director tell you too.

But I would suggest something that isn't from a popular musical these days. ( ie not something from rent, wicked, avenue q, phantom of the opera, les mis) Something from an older musical like Kiss me Kate or Damn Yankees.

In addition to the excellent previous tips, most people auditioning for a classic Broadway type musical such as The Sound of Music will select, as mentioned by the previous contributor, will select a rehearsed (it should be memorized), classic musical song in their key, which presumably, will be close to the key of the role being auditioned for. So, if Captain Von Trapp is a baritone, use something in that key such as "On the Street Where You Live" from "My Fair Lady," "Ten Minutes Ago" from "Cinderella" or "If Ever I Would Leave You" from "Camelot."

I'm probably not the best advice but I think you should sing "Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin'" from Oklahoma.
